Godzilla: Resurgence, Toho’s first feature in over a decade to star the King of Monsters, has locked down American distribution, and should hit screens there before the end of the year!
The rights have been acquired by FUNimation, SciFiJapan are reporting, and will include releasing the film in cinemas, home video and VOD, as well as broadcasting rights in North, Central, and South America. FUNimation are known primarily for releasing anime, but have released a few live action films in the past, including Attack on Titan and Rurouni Kenshin. They are planning a late-2016 theatrical release in the US.
Official synopsis:
An unknown accident occurs in Tokyo Bay’s Aqua Line, which causes an emergency cabinet to assemble. All of the sudden, a giant creature immediately appears, destroying town after town with its landing reaching the capital. This mysterious giant monster is named ‘Godzilla’.
Godzilla: Resurgence is co-directed by Hideaki Anno (Evangelion series) and Shinji Higuchi (Attack on Titan), and will hit Japanese screens on July 29th. Check out the latest trailer below. It’s awesome.
