It’s still around 6 weeks away, but that hasn’t slowed down the news surrounding the new season of American Horror Story. Each season is a brand new tale and takes on a different theme; Season 5 is titled ‘hotel’ and, until now, plot details have been thin. We knew that pop singer Lady Gaga is to be the hotel manager, but that was about it. Now we have some concrete and detailed information and it’s all very exciting.
The plot has been inspired by one of America’s first documented serial killers H. H. Holmes. Way back in the late 1800s Holmes opened up a hotel with murder in mind and it was believed that he had over 200 victims, despite only admitting to 27. The show itself will see a hotel being built in 1930 by the insane James March (Evan Peters), an apparent labyrinthine structure with plenty of hidden rooms to hide March’s murderous lifestyle. This sounds like a great base for the story; the previous seasons of the show have had very dark back stories, so it’s great that this one is to be no different.
The show itself will move back and forth between this 1930s past and the present, where Lady Gaga is running Holmes’ hotel. Lady Gaga is also quite monstrous herself and although Ryan Murphy says she’s not a vampire per se, she’s got a thirst for blood and that sounds like a vampire to me. Described as “A glamorous socialite who attends art openings and fashion shows and maintains her looks not from a steady diet of kale but from imbibing human blood.” Very interesting.
We also have a few details on the rest of the cast as follows:
“Also gravitating around the world of the Cortez are Ramona Royale (Angela Bassett), an actress/former lover of The Countess’ seeking revenge; Iris (Kathy Bates), Donovan’s mother and the front desk clerk; Liz Taylor (Denis O’Hare), a cross-dresser nicknamed by The Countess; Hypodermic Sally (Sarah Paulson), a junkie and friend of The Countess; Detective John Lowe (Wes Bentley), a cop investigating a murderer named the Ten Commandments Killer; and The Addiction Demon, a creature in the vein of Rubberman or Bloodyface, who has no eyes or mouth but does wield a nasty, conical drillbit dildo”.
It all sounds wondrously mental and I am so excited for the new season to start. For now, you can have a gander at a whole array of images while you wait for American Horror Story: Hotel to air on 7th October 2015.
