June 28th saw Universal and Blumhouse drop the final trailer for their hotly anticipated adaption of the popular video game series Five Nights at Freddy’s, and fans are excited.

In the 2:27 clip we get a much better look at the film, the cast and the overall look and feel of it, as opposed to the 25 second teaser previously released.

We meet Josh Hutcherson’s Mike Schmit, a single father to his daughter Abby (Piper Rubio.) To make ends meet he takes night work as a security guard at the rundown Freddy Frazbear’s Pizzeria. The only downside being he must bring his daughter along and supervise her whilst she sleeps due to his inability to afford a babysitter.

The clip sets up the characters and the setting very nicely, as the family dynamic is quickly established, as are the roles of Elizabeth Lail’s Officer Monroe and Matthew Lillard’s William Afton. Lillard even provides a brief backstory on the once legendary pizza joint, stating it lost business in “the eighties” as something sinister happened, but the unseen owner refuses to close.

Thanks to the trailer’s quick and effective plot set-up, the rest of the clip is devoted to what fans really want. We are quickly introduced to “them,” in the form of the pizzeria’s animatronic animal mascots. In a series of quick cuts, a flurry of bright lights and horrific electronic cackling, we witness the creatures come to life and terrorise anyone crossing their path.

These sequences look like a bloody good time, and end on the intriguing information that the mascots are in fact driven by the souls of dead children and Schmit’s daughter is their new target. Following this we get a glimpse of Hutcherson in a Saw-like trap before a cut to black… They definitely leave us wanting more!

Five Nights at Freddy’s will be released to theatres and be available to stream on Peacock on October 27th 2023, and looks like the perfect pre-Halloween treat. You can check out the trailer below:
