It’s time to say goodbye to Ed and Lorraine Warren…
Warner Bros. have released the first teaser trailer for The Conjuring: Last Rites, the final entry in The Conjuring Universe’s mainline series. And let’s just say, the famous ghosthunters aren’t going down without a fight.
The teaser takes us to West Pittston, Pennsylvania in 1986. With Ed and Lorraine seemingly retired from investigating, they make a comfortable living on the lecture circuit. However, a call from Jack and Janet Smurl pulls them back into the paranormal fray.
The couple, their four children, and Jack’s elderly parents inhabit a duplex, where terrifying events have been happening for years.
In the clip, we witness Ed and Lorraine’s reluctance to take on the case, and their instant regret when things take a personal turn. In one particularly alarming sequence, Lorraine is seen dropping a locket containing a picture of her daughter Judy into a sink filled with blood. The sink then overflows as Lorraine screams in terror.
Something has drawn Ed and Lorraine Warren back in for a fight to the death, using the unsuspecting Smurl family as its pawns. Now that the evil has the Warren’s in its grasp, the teaser makes it clear they won’t get away lightly.

The Conjuring: Last Rites comes to us from long time Conjuring universe director Michael Chaves, from a script by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. James Wan also developed the story with McGoldrick, wishing to be more “hands-on” for Ed and Lorraine’s final chapter.
Last Rites stars Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as the iconic ghost-hunting couple, and will also see the return of series regulars Shannon Kook and Steve Coulter.
Ben Hardy, Mia Tomlinson, Rebecca Calder, Elliot Cowan, Kíla Lord Cassidy, Beau Gadsdon, and John Brotherton round out the cast.
The Conjuring: Last Rites is the ninth overall film in The Conjuring Universe, and is expected to wrap up “phase one” of the franchise. More is expected down the road, including a television spin-off, but right now, details are sparse.
