The story of Van Helsing is dying for a refresh, because since 2004’s disastrous film adaptation, there has not been another attempt to tackle this character and his (or her) vampire hunting escapades. However, now Syfy is bringing the story to the screen once again in a 13-episode series focusing on Van Helsing’s daughter Vanessa Helsing. You can check out the first image of Kelly Overton as Vanessa below; she looks fierce and ready to gun down any vampires that stand in the way of humankind’s survival.
Synopsis:
Van Helsing is a total re-imagination of a timeless brand, set in a world dominated and controlled by vampires. Vanessa Helsing is the last hope for survival, as she unknowingly awakens to discover she has a unique blood composition that makes her not only immune to vampires, but with the ability to turn a vampire human. With this secret weapon, Vanessa becomes a prime target for the vampires, while trying to save humanity.
The modern day setting of the story certainly sounds intriguing and along with the female-lead direction, Van Helsing could give us a much-needed reminder that the myth of Van Helsing is just as riveting as Dracula’s.
Van Helsing will air this autumn and additionally stars Jonathan Scarfe, Christopher Heyerdahl, Paul Johansson, David Cubitt and Tim Guinee.
