FIRST CLIP FROM “SALEM’S LOT” REBOOT HINTS SOMETHING’S LURKING IN THE BASEMENT

Posted on: September 17th, 2024

It’s been a long and bumpy road for Gary Dauberman’s reboot of Salem’s Lot. However, Warner Bros want us to know that the finish line is finally in sight.

To that end, they’ve released an extended clip, giving us our first look at a movie we feared would never see the light of day.

In the tense clip, we see our principals, including Lewis Pullman as Ben Mears, dare to enter the sinister Marsden House. As young Mark Petrie informs them a body lays upstairs, the basement door ominously opens unaided, inviting the gang inside. Upon arming themselves with crosses and stakes, the group descend into the darkened space, as otherworldly noises echo and the walls begin to shake…

Although we don’t see what is waiting in the darkness, the clip is very similar to a sequence in Tobe Hooper’s 1979 adaption. Any fan of that classic will already know what lurks in the basement… and be cursing this clip for making us wait.

Looking like a very polished film with plenty of atmosphere, it remains a mystery why Warner Bros have opted not to release Salem’s Lot to theatres.

Instead, the adaption will premiere on streaming service Max, after over two years on the shelf.

Co-starring Alfre Woodard, Makenzie Lee, Bill Sadler, and Matthew Camp, this iteration looks like it has plenty of box-office potential… So, we can’t help but wonder if Warner Bros have shot themselves in the foot with a straight to streaming debut in the US? But alas, we only report the news…

Set to debut on Max on October 3rd, Salem’s Lot will also have a limited-edition theatrical-run in the UK and Ireland, commencing October 11th.
