Last month we reported a rather exciting titbit in regards to Final Destination 6, the long-in-gestation follow-up to 2011’s enormously successful prequel The Final Destination.
We reported that producer Craig Perry let slip that the script for the upcoming straight-to-streaming sequel included death running amuck in a body modification parlour! Fans greeted this rapturously, as it opens so many avenues for brutality, something the franchise has never shied away from.
Now we have an even more solid update on the project’s status coming from series creator Jeffrey Reddick. Whilst promoting his latest project, the horror-thriller Til Death Do Us Part, Reddick has the following to say on the current status of the sixth film:
“There is a sixth one that’s planned the minute, again, the AMPTP comes back to the table, that movie is ready to go. It’s just nice as a genre fan to have something created that has become a part of the public zeitgeist. Again, I couldn’t have asked for more.”
So, we have a very promising movie ahead of us, according to Reddick, but how long we must wait depends on just how long the studios are willing to hold out against the striking actors and writers. With writers reaching over 100 days on strike and the actors just about to pass 1 month, sources say it will not be much longer until an agreement is reached, as Hollywood will soon run out of content to release otherwise. So, fear not, a sixth Final Destination will be shooting sooner rather than later.
This next instalment of the series will see the return of longtime producer Perry, but without his usual partner Warren Zide. Exciting fans further is that Guy Busick, co-writer of the most recent Scream offerings is penning the script from a story by recent Spiderman trilogy director Jon Watts, who is also tipped to direct. The talent pool for this upcoming entry is certainly impressive, and it is hoped that it will show in the final product.
