Hot on the heels of several casting announcements, we have confirmation that horror prequel The Conjuring: First Communion has commenced shooting.
Production is underway in the town of Schenectady, New York, both on-location and at nearby soundstages.
Location shots show streets lined with vintage cars, and various extras milling around trailers in 1940s-style clothing.
A map of road closures is also seen on a nearby tree, revealing First Communion’s working title is Bridgeport. Of course, this is the small town in Connecticut where the Warren’s investigated an infamous poltergeist case in 1974.
The commencement of shooting comes just weeks after actors Garrett Wareing and Amanda Fix were cast in the lead roles of Ed and Lorraine Warren. The duo will be taking on younger versions of the characters previously portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga.
Matthias Schweighöfer has also been cast in the prequel, but his role remains unknown.
Similarly, plot details of First Communion are being kept under wraps.
Rodrigue Huart has been chosen to direct The Conjuring: First Communion, from a script by Richard Naing & Ian Goldberg.
The prequel is slated for release on September 10th 2027.
With the movie now before the cameras, we expect more news soon, so watch this space.
Update: Just as this article went to press, news of three new cast members landed. According to reliable sources actors Charles Parnell, Marta Kessler, and Caleb Dolden have joined The Conjuring: First Communion. Details of their roles remain undisclosed.
