We are inching ever-closer to 2024, and genre fans have many treats awaiting them in the next year, chief among them Fede Alvarez’s upcoming Alien instalment. Just shy of a year before its August 2024 release date, Alvarez has confirmed in a July 4th Instagram post that the project has wrapped filming!
“Time for a celebratory cigar. That’s a wrap!” Alvarez captioned a photo of himself sitting thoughtfully on his trailer steps as he enjoyed his prize.
After two months filming and an unbelievable amount of secrecy, Alvarez’s vision is in the can and fans cannot wait for a peek if the comments are anything to go by.
Initially slated as a Hulu Original movie, we reported 2 weeks ago that Disney were now seriously considering a theatrical release for Alvarez’s Alien project, following the untold success 2022’s Predator prequel Prey brought to the service.
“In this ninth entry in the immensely popular and enduring film series, a group of young people on a distant world find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”
Described as a “dark, gritty standalone” film, Alvarez and his team are reportedly being careful not to interfere with any established timelines or characters. Plot details are being kept closely guarded, with little more than the cast being announced to the public.
Currently untitled, the project stars Cailee Spaeny, Spike Fearn, David Jonsson and Aileen Wu. We will keep an eye on any further movement towards a theatrical release as the August 16th 2024 release date approaches.
