A new poster (right) has been unveiled for the aptly-titled ‘Viral’ which follows a young woman who documents her family’s survival during a viral outbreak. The film comes from directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (Paranormal Activity 3 + 4, Nerve) and takes them back to realm of found-footage.
There are a lot of found-footage films, but not many focus on viral outbreaks; the [REC] franchise and its USA remake Quarantine immediately spring to mind, as well as Barry Levinson’s The Bay, but there aren’t many others that stand out. It’s definitely a narrative that is missing in found footage, so it will be interesting to see what Joost and Schulman do as they steer away from supernatural scares.
Check out the trailer below. It shows the beginning of the outbreak and ends on a quite effective jump scare. Viral will be released on VOD at some point in 2016.
