The critically-acclaimed horror film The Witch has received a new poster – much in the same style as the previous – but this time a raven is the symbol of evil.
Synopsis:
New England, 1630. Upon threat of banishment by the church, an English farmer leaves his colonial plantation, relocating his wife and five children to a remote plot of land on the edge of an ominous forest – within which lurks an unknown evil. Strange and unsettling things begin to happen almost immediately – animals turn malevolent, crops fail, and one child disappears as another becomes seemingly possessed by an evil spirit. With suspicion and paranoia mounting, family members accuse teenage daughter Thomasin of witchcraft, charges she adamantly denies. As circumstances grow more treacherous, each family member’s faith, loyalty and love become tested in shocking and unforgettable ways.
Branded as one of the best and scariest horror films of the year, The Witch has received an abundance of positive responses while it has been on the festival circuit. Hopefully the film will be a welcome return to the atmospheric, genuinely creepy style of horror that we see so rarely. Robert Eggers is the director and this will be his first feature-length film. If the early reactions are anything to go by, he is a horror director we should all be keeping an eye on.
The Witch will be released in the USA on 26th February and in the UK on 11th March. Luckily, we think it’s going to be worth the long 4 month wait. While you wait, check out the trailer below.
