After making a very respectable $40 million worldwide during its opening weekend, Evil Dead Rise has continued to hold strong during its second. Though movies usually fall 50% or more during their second week, Evil Dead Rise has defied expectations, falling only 40% and remaining in second place.
This takes Evil Dead Rise to a very impressive worldwide total of $86.4 million, virtually guaranteeing there will be more deadite carnage to come.
Prior to the release of Evil Dead Rise, producers Sam Raimi, Robert Tapert and Bruce Campbell spoke of the possibility of expanding the franchise further. It is Raimi’s intention to produce a new Evil Dead entry “every two or three years.”
With Rise likely to pass $100 million in the coming weeks and still earning praise from fans the world over, it seems Raimi’s plans are well within reach. Writer/director Lee Cronin has also discussed the possibility of sequels, should he be asked to continue with the series.
