More information is emerging about Evil Dead Rise, the newest entry in the Evil Dead franchise. Variety revealed that the film will launch on HBO Max in the US and will get a theatrical release in the UK and France via Studiocanal and Metropolitan respectively. What’s more, we finally have some details about the plot and cast.
“The next chapter in the saga builds off the original trilogy, rather than the 2013 reboot,” Variety notes. “Evil Dead Rise moves the action out of the woods and into the city. The twisted tale centres on two estranged sisters, portrayed by Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.”
Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground) is directing Evil Dead Rise for New Line Cinema. Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, director and star of the original trilogy, are executive producing alongside Rob Tapert, and Variety notes that Campbell will not appear onscreen in the film.
Filming is expected to begin next month in New Zealand.
