Russian creature-feature Sputnik was only released last summer, but an English-language remake is already in the works.
Deadline reports that the project comes to us from producer Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho, alongside Village Roadshow and XYZ Films. The original film, which was directed by Egor Abramenko and set during the Cold War, followed a neuropsychologist summoned to assess a Soviet cosmonaut who returned from space with something dangerous living inside him.
“We believe Sputnik will translate well to English-speaking audiences and continue to captivate moviegoers worldwide with its thrilling story,” Village Roadshow’s Jillian Apfelbaum said in a statement. “We are eager to begin production and believe we have some of the best partners in the industry to reimagine Egor’s original vision while staying true to the film’s journey.”
