Despite being a sleeper hit in 2023, Eli Roth’s slasher movie Thanksgiving remains without a sequel.
The project was initially green-lit following the original’s surprising opening weekend haul, and according to Roth the script is complete.
However, it’s been some time since we’ve had a solid update on the movie, despite rumours of several cast members poised to return.
Now, as Roth gears up to release The Ice Cream Man, the topic of Thanksgiving 2 has inevitably come up once again.
This time, Roth had a slightly more encouraging update, saying:
‘I’m gonna sit down with Jeff Rendell after the release of Ice Cream Man. We’re just gonna go through one last pass of the script. And then I’m gonna basically have the movie locked and loaded and figure out how we do this.”
Roth also elaborated on something he’d hinted at before, confirming the main delay with the sequel comes from scheduling conflicts:
“We can’t get everyone together again for four weeks the way we could last time, but how can I get everyone in the room for this scene and then split them up for that scene?”
Scheduling difficulties are understandable, as Thanksgiving cast members Addison Rae and Milo Manheim are both set for stardom with high-profile films in the works.
So, it seems Roth is determined to make a sequel to his beloved slasher, but we’ll just have to be patient!
