If you grew up in the 90s, Hocus Pocus was likely one of your starter horror movies—a film made for kids but full of creepy ideas like child-eating witches. A sequel is currently in the works over at Disney, and we’re thrilled to hear that Doug Jones will reprise his role as Billy Butcherson!
Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy are also back for the new film, playing the iconic Sanderson Sisters, three witches hanged in the 17th century. Whitney Peak (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Lilia Buckingham (Crown Lake), and Belissa Escobedo (American Horror Stories) will play three young women in present-day Salem who incite the sisters’ wrath.
Other new cast members for the sequel include Sam Richardson (Werewolves Within), Tony Hale (What Josiah Saw), Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), Froy Gutierrez (Teen Wolf), Juju Brener, Taylor Paige Henderson, and Nina Kitchen. Here’s the official synopsis:
“It’s been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters who were executed for practising witchcraft, and they are looking for revenge. Now it is up to three high-school students to figure out how to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before midnight on All Hallow’s Eve.”
Hocus Pocus 2 was written by Jen D’Angelo and is being directed by Anne Fletcher. Expect to see it on Disney+ next autumn.
