It’s been two years since SYFY and USA cancelled Chucky after a relatively successful three-season run.
Since then, fans have been pestering Child’s Play creator Don Mancini, all wanting to know one thing; when will Chucky return?
Despite a hint or two over the past two years, we haven’t had a definitive answer… until now.
Speaking recently at Steel City Comic Con, Mancini confirmed that he’s in the process of scripting a new Child’s Play instalment.
When pressed for more details, interestingly, Mancini elaborated that the project will serve as a soft reboot.
According to the creator, his intention is to take the Chucky series back to the darker tone of the first three films and 2013’s Curse of Chucky.
When asked if the newest entry will keep the franchise’s more outlandish elements canon, and if it will acknowledge the televisions series, Mancini cryptically said:
“Well… sort of.”
This is the first direct confirmation we’ve had that our favourite killer doll is set to return, with the news being received warmly by genre fans.
Prior to Mancini’s statements, we’ve had hints from franchise regulars Jennifer Tilly and Fiona Dourif that more Chucky is in the pipeline.
Mancini refused to be drawn on exact plot details for an upcoming instalment, but insisted that he’d like to make Chucky “scary again.”
So, exciting times ahead for the Child’s Play/Chucky series, and we hope to receive further updates very soon.
