Unbelievably, in a career spanning over four decades, Hollywood icon Demi Moore has never won an award for her acting achievements.
The 2025 Golden Globes changed that, with the actress winning “Best Female Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy,” for her turn in the satirical body-horror flick The Substance.
Coralie Fargeat’s genre heavyweight, earned a fantastic 5 nominations, but only took home one award. This nightmarish flick has been sweeping the boards at award shows across the world, so we can’t say we’re surprised by Moore’s win.
Detailing an ageing Hollywood star’s quest for eternal youth, the Cronenberg inspired flick is being hailed as a major comeback for the actress. Now, following her win, this seems to be inevitable, and hopes are high that Moore will also receive an Academy Award Nomination.
In her acceptance speech, Moore highlighted that the project was a “gamble” for her, as she tends to shy away from the horror genre. However, Moore elaborated that the script was so “bonkers,” that she felt compelled to join the cast. Emotionally concluding her acceptance speech, the actress thanked genre fans and the general audience for showing The Substance so much affection, and surmised that her accepting the project was “fate.”
The reaction to Moore’s win has been celebrated by genre fans across social media, many pointing out that horror is becoming more and more present during awards season. Undoubtedly, an actress of Moore’s stature receiving a gong for a horror-based project will further change the genre’s perception in Hollywood.
With several more award nominations pending, The Substance looks set to continue reaping rewards… However, we’re dying to know if it will earn Moore that Academy Award nod. Furthermore, will she win?
Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you informed.
