Lionsgate and BuzzFeed have taken over New Line Cinema’s film adaptation of the viral ghost story Dear David, and the movie has found its director. Deadline reports that John McPhail (Anna and the Apocalypse) will direct the adaptation, which is being written by Mike Van Waes.
If you’re not familiar with Dear David, it was essentially a Twitter urban legend that began in 2017 when Adam Ellis, a former BuzzFeed employee and social media content creator, tweeted that “My apartment is currently being haunted by the ghost of a dead child and he’s trying to kill me.” What followed was a creepy thread documenting the alleged haunting.
Deadline adds that the film is slated to begin shooting imminently, with the final cast being locked in now. More news as we hear it.
