With 2026 being the game’s tenth anniversary, we expected many exciting Dead by Daylight updates.
And, whilst the game has received exciting updates including the addition of Jason Voorhees and Scooby Doo, we weren’t expecting such an exciting update on a potential film.
So far, we know the adaption will come to us from Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, with prolific genre names David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Alexandre Aja writing the script.
Now, during a live stage event celebrating the anniversary, Thordur Palsson has been confirmed as Dead by Daylight’s director.
Best known for his 2024 folk-horror tale The Damned, Palsson will make the jump from indie to mainstream filmmaking with Dead by Daylight.
Of the hiring of Palsson, producer Jason Blum said:
“There is no better moment than the tenth anniversary to share this news. Thordur is the filmmaker we trust to carry Dead by Daylight from the screen you play on to the big screen you watch in theatres.”
Palsson himself then took to the stage, expressing his excitement at being chosen to adapt Dead by Daylight for the big screen:
“For me, the main thing is capturing the feeling of playing Dead by Daylight. The main thing is I want to capture the feeling of looking over your shoulder. I want to capture the dread, the tension, the fear of what’s waiting for you in The Fog.”
It remains a mystery how the script will bring the multiplayer horror survival aspect of the game into play. However, this is one of the main concerns fans have regarding a film adaption; that it simply won’t translate well on-screen.
Production is expected to begin in early 2027, despite plot details remaining closely guarded. So, the ball is rolling on a Dead by Daylight adaption, and we’re undeniably curious to see what’s in store.
