DAVID GORDON GREEN AND BLUMHOUSE ISSUE “THE EXORCIST: BELIEVER” UPDATE

Posted on: June 8th, 2023

Blumhouse and Universal have issued an update on the status of their upcoming legacy sequel The Exorcist: Believer, posting a short clip of Green to the Blumhouse YouTube page.

“The countdown begins.” Green states. “We are 134 days [as of June 2nd 2023] away from the release of our film The Exorcist: Believer. Right now, our team is putting the finishing touches on things. We’re excited to bring it to you on the big screen, that’s going to happen very soon.”

Accompanying the video, the studio released a still of Green on the film’s set, giving us the briefest glimpse of the movie’s dark looking production design.

This YouTube clip comes just a week after it was reported that a first cut of The Exorcist: Believer performed rather poorly at a test screening. Those in attendance took to social media with claims that the film was too long and “not scary.”

However, it appears the release will be moving forward as planned, with Green’s statement seeming to confirm that no additional photography will take place.

Acting as a direct sequel to the 1973 original, The Exorcist: Believer will see Leslie Odom Jr. star as the parent of a possessed child. Desperate, he seeks out help from actress Chris MacNeil, played by Ellen Burstyn, reprising the role for the first time in five decades.
Reports remain unclear as to just how involved original star Linda Blair will be in the project, with the studio naming her as a “technical advisor,” but test audiences attesting to seeing her on-screen.

The Exorcist: Believer will release on October 13th 2023, and we are certainly intrigued as to how the final product will perform. You can watch Green’s statement below:
