CURRY BARKER’S “OBSESSION” SURPRISES AT THE BOX-OFFICE

Posted on: May 24th, 2026

Curry Barker continues to emerge as one of the hottest names in horror, thanks to the box-office success of Obsession.

Already a critical darling, Obsession opened alongside Is God Is and In the Grey. Although the newest releases were expected to present no competition, Obsession was projected to gross a modest $8 million.

However, after making $6.6 million in its first day, box-office projections were quickly raised to $14 million.

Obsession surprised everyone by ultimately finishing its domestic weekend run with an impressive $17.2 million.

This had Obsession finishing in third place, in an interesting weekend that saw two holdovers take the lead. Lionsgate’s biopic Michael rose to number one almost a month after its debut, whilst 20th Century’s The Devil Wears Prada 2 fell from the top spot and settled into second.

Internationally, Obsession performed just as admirably, bringing in an additional $7.7 million, for a worldwide total of $24.9 million.

Given Obsession’s reported production budget of just $1 million, this already makes Barker’s film one of the most
profitable of 2026.

The enormous success of Obsession sets Barker up for incredible success ahead.

As we know, Barker has been tapped for a reboot of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre for A24. His second feature, Anything but Ghosts has already been completed and is awaiting a release date.

It’s safe to say, Obsession’s financial success has Barker’s future in the horror genre looking very bright.
