Just last week we pondered if Peacock and A24’s Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake was in trouble.
With no new updates since September 2022, and unfortunate allegations against producer Bryan Fuller, it looked as though the project had stalled.
However, it seems we’ve been heard!
We’re hearing from a trusted source that the project is ready to go, having been stalled by the Hollywood strikes. Now that they’ve ended, A24 and Peacock are seeking to move forward as soon as possible.
To that end, we’re hearing that the project is eyeing at shooting date in either the spring or summer of 2024.
Unfortunately, this does mean that the eventual premiere will likely be pushed to 2025, mirroring a great many highly anticipated television projects at present.
Although not much, it’s encouraging to hear that the project is still intending to push forward despite the Hollywood upheaval. We’ve been without any new Friday the 13th content on screen for almost 15 years now, and as slashers continue to dominate the horror consciousness, it seems unfair that Jason Voorhees doesn’t get a slice.
Currently little is known about Crystal Lake outside of the fact it will act as a prequel to the film series and that original final girl Adrienne King has been cast in an undisclosed recurring role.
However, now that things appear to be moving forward, we’ll be keeping a much closer eye on this one.
