It was hinted at a few weeks ago, but today we can confirm that The Crooked Man from The Conjuring 2 will be officially receiving his own spinoff. Based on a story written by James Wan (Insidious, The Conjuring), Mike Van Waes is set to write the script.
IMDb states that Van Waes is currently additionally tied to an untitled Wizard of Oz/horror project, so that sounds mighty interesting.
The Crooked Man was undoubtedly a stand-out character from The Conjuring 2, despite only having a few moments of screen-time. It will be intriguing to see what wonders and horrors Van Waes brings to his back-story and how much deeper they weave him in to the ever-expanding Conjuring universe.
Javier Botet brought the freaky character to life and we expect him to return to the character for the spinoff, but this is yet to be confirmed. When speaking about The Crooked Man, producer Peter Safaran said:
“I think there’s something fascinating in the Crooked Man. […] I suspect a movie with him would be really really cool. I just love what that character can be. We have some interesting ideas for him.”
With Annabelle: Creation hitting cinemas this August and The Nun following behind on 13th July 2018, we could be looking at a release for The Crooked Man in 2019. Wan and Safaran will produce, but the director’s chair is still up for grabs. Who should it be offered to?
