Courteney Cox is officially set to reprise her role as Gale Weathers in Scream 7.
Confirmation of Cox’s involvement is the latest in a plethora of casting announcements regarding the seventh Scream entry.
Initially Cox was on record saying she hadn’t yet inked a deal, but was waiting to see the script. Sometime later, the actress floated her return, expressing her excitement for the project and saying she “couldn’t stop now.”
Now everything has been signed and sealed, and we know categorically that Gale Weathers will return.
How much of a role Cox’s character will play remains unknown, however, reliable sources tell us Gale is set to co-lead next to Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott. This will be a step up for the character, who has played a supporting role in the previous two entries.
As stated, Cox joins fellow legacy cast member Neve Campbell, who signed on to the project back in March. However, there is still no official word on if Scream 3’s Patrick Dempsey will board the project. Earlier this year, Dempsey stated there had been “a conversation” regarding Scream 7, but that he hadn’t seen a script.
Campbell and Cox will be joined by fellow returnee Mason Gooding, who is set to reprise is popular role as Chad Meeks-Martin in Scream 7.
The actors join a plethora of new faces boarding the series, including Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, and Anna Camp.
With the cast in place, shooting on Scream 7 will begin January 7th, under the watchful eye of director Kevin Williamson. The series creator will direct his first feature in 26 years with Scream 7, and his first in the series.
Scream 7 is set to release on February 27th 2026, and we’ll let you know if any further updates drop.
