It’s been a slow road, but we finally have some solid news on Scream 8.
As we’ve known for some time, Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media have been actively developing an eighth instalment since the massive success of Scream 7.
All we know for sure is that screenwriting duo Nora and Lila Zuckerman have been hired to pen the script.
Now, we have a major Scream star speaking out on what the future may hold for the series and their potential involvement.
Franchise star Courteney Cox is currently busy on the promotional circuit. The Gale Weathers actress is promoting her sophomore directorial effort Evil Genius. Whilst at the Toronto International Film Festival, the topic of Scream 8 was inevitably put to Cox.
Surprisingly, the actress put herself forward as a possible director to the project, saying:
“I think I should, honestly [direct]. Nobody knows more about that movie than I do. I mean, and the creator, and Wes Craven, and the writers, and everybody who’s been in it. But I think it’d be great and fun and a good publicity thing. Get on it.”
However, there has been no indication that Cox has been offered the position. Interestingly, the actress did indicate she was in negotiations for some kind of Scream 8 involvement, joking:
“No, I had to play hardball with them, just a little bit.”
So, Cox may well return, but the jury is out on if she’ll be in the director’s chair.
With her burgeoning career behind the camera, perhaps the actress would be a good fit for Scream 8. After all, as noted by Cox herself, it would be very good publicity for the project.
According to a reliable source, a significant Scream 8 update is expected to land this October, so we’ll be sure to bring any news as soon as we can.
However, we’d like to point out, that contrary to recent clickbait reports, Scream 8 has not begun filming.
