You had to know that your friend til the end wouldn’t be down for long…
We’re delighted to report that the third season of USA and SyFy’s Chucky is back before the cameras following a 4-month hiatus due to Hollywood’s SAG-AFTRA strike.
Unlike other projects, Chucky was relatively quiet regarding its shutdown, with production halting quietly in June.
Initially it was suspected that the entire third season had been completed before the actors were forced to back out in support of their union. This arose when a full teaser trailer for the season premiered, with the October 2023 air-date still in place.
However, the networks later clarified that only five episodes had been complete prior to the shutdown. Rather than disappointing fans, it was decided that Chucky’s third season would air in 2 parts, consisting of four episodes each.
This resulted in us seeing Chucky gain access to The White House, befriend the president’s son and face fierce opposition from our starring trio, all whilst he slowly dies with his immortality compromised. We also witnessed Jennifer Tilly’s Tiffany Valentine sentenced to death and wreaking havoc in prison.
All of that in just four episodes! Ending with the perfect Halloween cliffhanger, we can’t wait to see what else this season has in store for us.
The resumption of filming was confirmed by series star Zackary Arthur via an Instagram Q&A. When asked by a fan if Chucky’s third season would soon continue, Arthur posted “Yeah, we’re back!”
Bolstering this are similar social media posts from cast members such as Jennifer Tilly and Jackson Kelly, confirming they are once again in Toronto.
Currently no air date for the season’s second half has been offered, other than that it will be “sometime in 2024.”
It seems the genre is on a rapid comeback to its mighty peak following the Strike setbacks, and we’re very glad to see it. Welcome back, Chucky!
