Words of a Gremlins reboot or sequel have been doing the rounds for a while now, but Chris Columbus has now confirmed that a reboot is in the works. When speaking to the US Metro, the scribe of the original cult classic said:
“Gremlins, we are actively talking about that. So that’s what I am working on with my production company 1492 Pictures. It will almost definitely be a reboot.”
“Almost definitely” still leaves room for the film to be a sequel, but we’re expecting a completely new version of the story now. Does this mean no Gizmo? No Billy? Who knows?
Although Gremlins is one of my favourite horror (and Christmas) films, I’m intrigued to see a new re-telling. If the right director and writer (perhaps Columbus again?) jump aboard, then we could be in for another darkly comic story of those pesky Gremlins.
Remember to never feed them after midnight and never get them wet! Or else.
