With It continuing to clean up at the box office almost three weeks after release, a date has now been set for Chapter 2. It was announced on Monday that the concluding part of the epic adaptation will hit cinemas on September 6th, 2019.
As expected, Andrés Muschietti will remain in the director’s chair, with Gary Dauberman again penning the script. Chapter 2 will reintroduce us to The Losers’ Club nearly 30 years after their first showdown with Pennywise, cutting back and forth between their return to Derry as adults and the events of the summer depicted in Part 1.
As far as we know, casting for the adult versions of Bill, Eddie, Richie, Bev, Ben, Mike and Stan has yet to begin, although most fans no doubt have their own personal wishlists.
Muschietti has already all but confirmed that the cosmic turtle known as Maturin will not be brought in from Stephen King’s novel, and we will also not see Pennywise in the guise of a giant spider. While this works a treat in the book, its inclusion in the 1990 It miniseries no doubt warded Muschietti off another screen appearance. One major change from the book that we will see in Chapter 2 concerns Mike Hanlon, with Muschietti recently noting:
“Staying in Derry took a toll with him. I want him to be a junkie actually. A librarian junkie. When the second movie starts, he’s a wreck.”
By the time Chapter 2 arrives, we’ll likely all have revisited the first multiple times on disc. It’s gonna be a long wait.
