After garnering a “lust-have” status on the international festival circuit, Canadian helmer Elza Kephart’s terrifyingly timely horror-comedy SLAXX is all set to strut its stuff on Shudder tomorrow.
Starring Romane Denis (Slut in a Good Way), Brett Donahue (Private Eyes), Sehar Bhojani (The Handmaid’s Tale), Stephen Bogaert (The Umbrella Academy) and Tianna Nori (The Demolisher), Kephart’s savvy mix of self-aware satire and on-the-nose social and sartorial commentary switches Child’s Play’s Chucky for a pair of sentient slacks brought to life to punish the unscrupulous practices of a fashionable clothing company. Shipped to the company’s flagship store, “Slaxx” proceeds to wreak carnage on staff locked in overnight to organise the collection turnaround.
On the eve of the release, SCREAM caught up with Kephart and the two lead players, Denis and Donahue who revealed how the seed of an idea that sprouted from a simple joke bloomed into a narrative that offers much more of a deep-cutting commentary than the film’s premise might suggest.
Shudder has announced that it will stream SLAXX exclusively beginning March 18 in the US, UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as via the Shudder offering within the AMC+ bundle where available.
