Things are progressing quickly on Hulu’s planned reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Last we heard, Firestarter actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong had snagged the lead role of Nova, a newly activated slayer. Armstrong was personally chosen for the role by actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, who will reprise her iconic role as Buffy Summers in a recurring capacity.
Now we can reveal that several other actors have boarded the project, as well as some details on the characters they will portray.
UnPrisoned actor Faly Rakotohavana will play Hugo, newcomer Ava Jean will portray Larkin, Severance star Sarah Bock is aboard as Gracie, Daniel di Tomasso of Witches of the East End is Abe, and Kingston Vernes will play Carson.
Currently we know very little in terms of character details, although we can confirm that most of the above-named cast will be students at New Sunnydale Academy. Additionally, it has been reported that Vernes character Carson is a “junior Olympic hopeful,” as well as the object of Nova’s affections.
Undoubtedly the highest profile new casting for the show is actor Jack Cutmore-Scott, best known for his role as the son of Kelsey Grammer’s titular character in the recent Fraiser reboot. Cutmore-Scott will play a character named Mr. Burke, who is tipped to be the series’ primary antagonist, and the principal of New Sunnydale Academy.
Filmmaker Chloe Zhao will direct the Buffy reboot pilot episode, from a script by Lila and Nora Zuckerman. As well as reprising her iconic role of Buffy Summers, Sarah Michelle Gellar will also executive produce the reboot. Longtime Buffy the Vampire Slayer producers Dolly Parton, Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui, and Kaz Kuzui will also return.
It is currently unknown if any further actors from Buffy’s original run will appear, although we suspect some legacy name announcements are on the horizon.
Having recently completed a table read, the show’s pilot is expected to begin shooting soon, although it remains unclear if any further episodes have been greenlit.
We’ll watch this project closely for any further updates!
