Bryan Fuller and Michael Green Depart American Gods

Posted on: December 3rd, 2017

Showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green have departed the American Gods TV series after season 1. The series’ first season is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime, with the second season confirmed in May and due to be released next year.

Based on the novel by Neil Gaiman, American Gods is a fantastical and complex tale about a war between the gods. The first season was hugely entertaining thanks to the boldness of its visual style and the strong cast that brought the characters to life. Featuring Ricky Whittle, Emily Browning, Ian McShane, Crispin Glover, Gillian Anderson and more, it truly was a star-studded affair.

So, why have Fuller and Green jumped ship? Apparently, it’s down to clashing over “creative direction”. That old chestnut. The creators are said to have reached an impasse with FremantleMedia, leading them to call it quits. It’s a shame to lose the creators after the first season was such a success, but what can you do?

No replacement showrunner has been named yet, but perhaps author Neil Gaiman will take up the reigns.
