Hot on the heels of Abigail and The Wolf Man, Universal is continuing to expand its “classic monsters” reboot catalogue, this time choosing 1935’s classic The Bride of Frankenstein.

Set to debut on October 3rd 2025, plot details are currently unknown. However, what is known has been more than enough to get genre fans excited.

Entitled The Bride, the project is to be directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, star of The Dark Knight. Furthermore, the cast is a who’s who of Hollywood names, led by Christian Bale.

Alongside Bale, the cast will include Annette Benning, Penelope Cruz, Jessie Buckley, and Peter Sarsgaard. That’s quite the cast, indeed!

Although very little is known, a rumour persists that the story will take place in the 1980s.

Although a retooling of The Bride of Frankenstein, it remains unclear what, if anything, this reboot will be a sequel to. Although the 1935 original was a sequel to 1931’s classic Frankenstein, there is currently no Universal reboot of that film planned. So, it is most likely that The Bride will take elements of both stories and weave them together.

We’ll keep an eye on this rather mysterious project, and report any major updates.
