Back in the fall, it was unexpectedly announced that Universal were actively developing a fourth instalment of their popular Mummy series.
Initially a reboot of their legendary 1932 property, the series quickly gained immense popularity, with the three films collectively grossing over $1 billion at the global box-office.
According to initial reports, series stars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz had been approached to reprise their leading roles of Rick and Evie O’Connell. Fraser last appeared in his role in 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, whilst Weisz was last seen in 2001’s The Mummy Returns.
The announcement was greeted warmly by industry insiders and series fans alike, and since then, we’re hearing the fourth Mummy film is moving along nicely.
However, the two stars attached to the project have remained mysteriously silent… until now.
Whilst Weisz has yet to confirm or deny her highly-anticipated return, Fraser has recently dropped a titbit about his involvement.
When asked about a possible fourth Mummy film, Fraser said:
“My lips are sealed! I’m hopeful to have good news soon because I know how popular the films were.”
Whilst that doesn’t seem like much information, Fraser seemingly confirmed negotiations for the project were ongoing in the next breath:
“People say ‘I grew up watching that movie and now I’ve got kids…’ Let’s all keep our fingers crossed and light a candle.”
So, things continue to keep on chugging, despite the lack of official announcements regarding The Mummy 4. Reports from a reliable source also suggest that fellow Mummy stars Arnold Vosloo and Patricia Vasquez are set to return, so we’ll let you know as soon as we have any official announcements on a new Mummy chapter.
