It’s been almost 2 years since USA and SyFy cancelled the Chucky television series.
Upon ending, the show left several cliffhangers unresolved, including Chucky and Tiffany escaping, and our main characters getting turned into marionette dolls.
A new feature film has been confirmed by Child’s Play creator Don Mancini, which he has cautioned is “very early” in development.
So, whilst we know more Chucky content is coming, we’re still unsure what that will look like… aren’t we?
Well, franchise star Brad Dourif has dropped some interesting tidbits about what could be expected from the next Chucky movie.
Speaking recently, Dourif revealed Mancini has pitched at least three possible scenarios for the ninth Child’s Play film:
“There is actually going to be another film made. I’ve heard maybe three pitches —that’s not a detail, and I’m not saying what they are—but they’re all different.”
Furthermore, Dourif elaborated on what fans can expect from the project, although artfully avoided specific details:
“If I know Don, I would say what he’s going to do is something completely different that I hadn’t thought of, that nobody had thought of.”
Well, colour us intrigued!
Mancini has previously voiced his intention to make the franchise “scary again,” fearing it had veered too far into absurdity as the television series progressed. There have also been some whispers that a new film instalment could go theatrical, given the voracious appetite for horror at the moment.
So, whilst nothing is concrete yet, it’s safe to say more Child’s Play content is on the horizon, and we’re sure fans will welcome Chucky back with open arms.
