Magnet Releasing, the genre powerhouse of Magnolia Pictures, is set to unleash Borderline, a stalker thriller that redefines the boundaries of romance and horror. Following in the darkly comedic footsteps of recent genre-bending triumph Heart Eyes by Josh Ruben, Borderline ventures into the chilling space where obsession blurs the lines of love, leaving audiences questioning the very nature of desire.
In his directorial debut, Jimmy Warden (writer of Cocaine Bear and The Babysitter: Killer Queen) presents a narrative as audacious as his previous work. Borderline stars Samara Weaving (Ready or Not, Guns Akimbo) as a ’90s pop icon ensnared by the dangerous fixation of Ray Nicholson (Smile 2)—a stalker who infiltrates her world with a delusional vision of marriage. As the stalker breaches her sanctuary, a high-stakes game of survival unfolds, forcing the star to confront her nightmare, aided by her loyal bodyguard.
The film features a standout supporting cast, including Eric Dane (X-Men: The Last Stand, Feast), Alba Batista (Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, Amelia’s Children), and Jimmie Fails (The Last Black Man in San Francisco).
To celebrate the theatrical and digital release of Borderline on March 14th, Scream went behind the scenes with Weaving, Nicholson, and Warden. They discussed the inspiration behind Warden’s choice of Borderline as his directorial debut, the delicate balance of dark humour and suspense, and the nuanced portrayal of the “final girl” archetype—straddling the line between victimhood, laugh-out-loud comedy, and resilience.
