There have been murmurings about The Exorcist franchise being rebooted for several years now. In December, rumour had it that Blumhouse and Morgan Creek would be producing a new film, with David Gordon Green potentially directing. Now we finally have something concrete—because Jason Blum recently confirmed to Den of Geek that Blumhouse is indeed producing!
Interestingly, Blum compared the upcoming film to 2018’s Halloween, which was of course directed by Green. Green has yet to be confirmed as the director of this new project, but it does seem as though all signs are pointing in that direction.
“[It’s] going to be like David’s Halloween sequel,” Blum told Den of Geek “I think it’s going to pleasantly surprise all the skeptics out there. We had a lot of skeptics about Halloween and David turned them around, and I think he’s going to turn it around with The Exorcist.”
Blum also added that he wants “to make a movie for people that know and love the first Exorcist and are furious that we’re doing this… I want them to come out happy.”
