Following the departure of Bassam Tariq, Yann Demange has taken over directorial duties on Marvel’s Blade reboot.
According to Deadline: “By having the extra time to meet with candidates, Marvel could now zero in on the writer and director who could deliver the tone they wanted to achieve with this film… Following weeks of meetings and pitches, Demange would land the job after delivering a pitch that execs were excited about.”
Demange helmed the fantastic season premiere of Lovecraft Country. His other directing credits include the crime drama White Boy Rick, which starred Matthew McConaughey, and the drama ‘71.
Michael Starrbury has been brought on board to write a new script for Blade, which Deadline notes “probably won’t be as dark as the previous Blade pics” while still likely being darker in tone than previous MCU projects. The titular vampire slayer will be played by Mahershala Ali (Moonlight).
Blade is slated to release on September 6th, 2024.
