Cries for an It: Chapter 3 still persist, and when HBO Max announced a prequel television series, joy abounded through the horror community.
Welcome to Derry is the brainchild of the team behind the wildly successful theatrical films, and will explore the town’s history of unpleasant happenings as well as the origin of Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
Given this brief, fans were quite hopeful that franchise star Bill Skarsgard would return to create the ultimate origin tale.
However, it was announced this past week that Skarsgard is “not currently involved” in the project, which is expected to shoot this month in Canada.
Although disheartening given Skarsgard’s popularity as the character, this information opens a myriad of questions. Have the team hired someone else to play a younger and very human Pennywise?
Details on the series’ plot and even casting are sparse, with Warner Bros. and HBO being incredibly secretive. Stephen King fans are eager for a Pennywise return and the studio is seemingly using this to their advantage and drip-feeding information.
With cameras set to roll very soon on the project, we will keep a close eye on this one and report any developments.
