Here’s some news we weren’t expecting. Warner Bros has tapped Ben Wheatley (A Field in England, High-Rise) to direct The Meg 2.
Based on Steve Alten’s Meg novels and directed by Jon Turteltaub, the first film in the toothy franchise was released in 2018 and grossed over $530 million worldwide. According to The Hollywood Reporter, star Jason Statham is expected to make a return and be “creatively involved” for the sequel.
The Meg, of course, followed a group of scientists who teamed up with rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Statham) to kill a 75-foot-long prehistoric shark. Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, and Ruby Rose also starred.
