Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsommar) has previously stated that he’d like to do either an evil comedy or a domestic melodrama for his next film. And in a recent interview with UC Santa Barbara’s Associated Students Program Board, he clarified that he’s working on that “nightmare comedy” after all—and that it’s going to be a long one.
“All I know is that it’s gonna be four hours long,” Aster said, noting that he’s just finished a new draft of the script.
It’s possible that he’s only teasing, of course—but with his slow, methodical pacing, we don’t expect him to keep things short, either. Both of the acclaimed director’s previous films have crossed the two-hour mark, with the extended cut of Midsommar clocking in at 2 hours and 51 minutes.
