Alt Space Events: The Force Bringing Alt Drag Back to the UK Mainstream

Posted on: September 18th, 2024

In a world where drag has exploded into the mainstream through glittering wigs and rhinestone-studded corsets, one company is pulling it back into the darker, edgier, and rawer realms of performance: Alt Space Events. This trailblazing, non-profit, enby/disability-owned event company is rewriting the rulebook on drag by championing the underground, alternative scene and bringing international drag icons to stages across the UK. From horror-themed spectaculars to interactive scare attractions, Alt Space is making sure that Alt Drag—in all its gritty, boundary-pushing glory—is back and bigger than ever.

A Lineup of International Drag Icons
Alt Space Events isn’t just bringing drag back to its rebellious roots, but they’re doing so in unforgettable style. They are shining a spotlight on alternative drag by showcasing the talents of Dragula stars and drag monsters from around the world, including some of the most iconic names in the industry. From one-off horror-themed gigs to national tours, Alt Space Events is the vehicle for alternative drag artistry in the UK.

This October, they’re kicking things off with a bang, bringing Orkgotik, Dragula Season 5 finalist, to Blackpool’s Sherlocks for a one-night-only interactive scare attraction PLUS Halloween drag show on October 25th. Orkgotik’s eerie aesthetic and mind-bending performances will have fans on the edge of their seats, transforming the venue into a haunted drag spectacle like no other.

Then, on Halloween night (October 31st), Alt Space will turn up the spooky factor even more, welcoming drag legends from the Manchester drag scene. Anna Phylactic, a Season 5 star of Dragula, returns home for a wild Halloween party alongside her drag sister Liquorice Black. Known for their involvement with The Family Gorgeous, Anna and Liquorice are bringing the house down with an epic drag show and DJ set—a must-attend for those craving spooky, alt-drag energy.

November is shaping up to be even more electrifying as Alt Space Events kicks off a ten-night UK tour featuring the terrifyingly talented Hoso Terra Toma and Niohuru X, starting in Bristol on November 8th. Hoso Terra Toma, a double finalist on Dragula, is known for combining grotesque horror with intricate beauty, while Niohuru X, the reigning Dragula Season 5 champion, has mastered the art of horror SFX and drag innovation. This tour promises a whirlwind of jaw-dropping visuals, horror-themed spectacles, and top-tier drag performances that fans won’t want to miss.

Finally, the end of November brings an exclusive, intimate UK tour from Onyx Ondyx, one of the most cutting-edge alternative drag artists in the world today. A Season 5 Dragula star, Onyx Ondyx will perform in smaller venues for a two-night-only experience, giving fans an up-close-and-personal look at their mind-bending artistry.

December: The Carnival of Filth Returns!
December marks the much-anticipated return of the rescheduled Carnival of Filth Tour—an unapologetically gritty, horror-infused drag extravaganza starring Dragula megastars and alternative drag pioneers The Dahli and Evah Destruction. This duo will lead fans through a tour of drag that’s as filthy as it is fabulous, blending horror, seduction, and unrestrained creativity into a performance that could only come from the pioneers of alt drag.

Inclusivity at Its Core
But what makes Alt Space Events truly groundbreaking isn’t just their dedication to alternative drag—it’s their commitment to inclusivity and diversity within the drag scene. They are one of the few UK event companies actively working with QIPOC drag artists, drag kings, drag things, drag monsters, and trans/non-binary artists, carving out space for performers whose voices deserve to be amplified.

As the only enby/disability-owned drag event company in the UK, Alt Space Events operates on a non-profit basis, reinvesting extra funds into local LGBTQIA+ projects. This commitment to community empowerment ensures that their events aren’t just entertainment—they’re part of a larger movement supporting underrepresented voices in drag and the LGBTQIA+ space.

Why You Can’t Miss an Alt Space Show
At Alt Space Events, drag is more than glitter and sequins—it’s about subversion, self-expression, and pushing the boundaries of performance art. Each show brings together a perfect mix of drag, filth, horror, and glamour, creating an experience that’s unlike anything else in the UK.

By bringing international drag icons like Anna Phylactic, Orkgotik, Hoso Terra Toma, Niohuru X, Onyx Ondyx, and The Dahli to UK audiences, Alt Space Events is cementing itself as the driving force behind the resurgence of alternative drag. Their shows don’t just entertain—they challenge, inspire, and offer a space where drag can be dirty, dangerous, and deeply impactful.

If you’re a fan of drag that isn’t afraid to get weird, dark, and wild, then Alt Space Events is your go-to. With events that will leave you exhilarated, creeped out, and completely awe-struck, they are the true pioneers of bringing alt drag back to the UK mainstream.

So, mark your calendars and grab your tickets—Alt Space Events is here to remind the world that in the realm of drag, the bizarre and the beautiful are always one and the same.
