Alien: Covenant Casts its Leading Lady

Posted on: December 19th, 2015

Katherine WaterstonWe recently reported that Rebecca Ferguson was rumoured to be cast in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel, but it has now been confirmed that Katherine Waterston has, in fact, landed a role in Alien: Covenant. You may recognise her from Inherent Vice or Steve Jobs, and she’s also featuring in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Synopsis:
Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant will mark the beginning of a new trilogy that will work as a prequel to 1979’s Alien. There’s now no mention of ‘Prometheus’, so it seems that it is now a thing of the past. With audiences and critics dividing over whether 2012’s Prometheus was actually worthwhile or not, this is not a surprise. Scott must now want to emphasise this film’s connection to Alien and that’s probably a good thing for fans.

In an interview with The Wrap, the director has also confirmed the return of some Alien favourites, “We’ll have them all: egg, face-hugger, chest-burster, then the big boy.” So, that’s exciting.

Alien: Covenant is shaping up nicely, but let’s hope these films don’t hinder the delights of the original. The last thing we want is this franchise to be ruined or totally run in to the ground.

Alien: Covenant will be released on 6th October 2017.
