It’s been a while since Adam Wingard has been in the horror fold, so we’re delighted he’s going back to his roots with Onslaught.
Of course, Wingard is perhaps best known for movies like You’re Next and The Guest, both of which heavily mixed the horror and action genres.
Now, he’s re-teamed with collaborator Simon Barrett to bring us Onslaught from A24.
In a brand-new trailer, we see that the movie borrows heavily from the slasher sub-genre, whilst maintaining Wingard’s trademark action chaos.
In the movie, a new brand of methodically trained super soldier is unleashed by the government, running amok in a nearby town.
These hulking villains, often photographed in silhouette with glowing eyes, bear an uncanny resemblance to the likes of Jason Voorhees or Michael Myers.
However, the slasher tropes don’t stop there, as Adria Arjona rivals You’re Next’s Erin, or Halloween’s Laurie Strode as a bad-ass final girl. Playing a retired army sniper who’s always prepared for danger, she must bust out her weapons and fight the unstoppable threat to protect her daughter.
Alongside Arjona, Onslaught also stars Dan Stevens, Drew Starkey, Rebecca Hall, Alex Pereira, and Michael Biehn.
We’re delighted that Wingard is returning to his action-horror roots, and we hope Onslaught will be another genre success for A24.
Onslaught will hit theatres on September 4th 2026, and you can peep the adrenaline-filled trailer below:
