“I’m in like, a seriously fucked up situation right now…”
It’s easily one of the most anticipated genre releases of the year, with one of the genre’s hottest talents behind it.
So, fans are going wild following the release of the first teaser for Zach Cregger’s take on Resident Evil.
In the clip, we meet Bryan, played by Austin Abrams. We join the young man as he enters a seemingly abandoned home in search of help. Finding the house trashed, he finds a phone and uses it to call his girlfriend.
As the character explains the unfathomable events he’s been through up to that point, we get flashes of the horrors he’s experienced.
Looking surprisingly atmospheric, the teaser makes it crystal clear that Cregger has taken Resident Evil back to its dark roots, eschewing the more action-oriented movies of recent years.
Alongside Abrams, Resident Evil also stars Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Johnno Wilson.
Of the film, Zach Cregger has previously stated that he’s fully prepared for it to “piss people off.” Acting as a fresh reboot to the storied franchise, Cregger has been vocal about the fact that his movie isn’t based on any of the popular video games. Furthermore, the filmmaker admitted he hasn’t seen any of the previous movie instalments.
Instead, Cregger describes his take on Resident Evil as a movie that takes place “within that world,” but features no recurring or familiar characters.
So, will Cregger’s ambitious re-invention pay off for Sony Entertainment? We’ll find out when Resident Evil hits screens on September 18th 2026.
