While it’s spawned a few spin-off films of varying quality, 2008’s Cloverfield has never had a true sequel—but that may be about to change. Deadline reports that Babak Anvari (Under the Shadow) is set to direct a new Cloverfield film for Paramount!
Plot details are currently under wraps, with Deadline noting that “it is unknown how this new instalment will link to its predecessors; whether its straight sequel to the original or an anthology piece that is set in the Cloverfield universe.” However, unlike 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Cloverfield Paradox, which began life as unrelated films before having a Cloverfield tie-in woven in, this latest film sounds like it is being written with Cloverfield in mind from day one.
Joe Barton is writing the script for the latest instalment, which J.J. Abrams will produce for Bad Robot alongside Hannah Minghella and Jon Cohen. Executive producers include Bryan Burk, Matt Reeves, and Drew Goddard.
