After becoming one of the biggest genre hits of 2025, as well as snagging several prestigious awards, audiences are hungry for more from the world of Weapons.
To that end, there was much delight when a prequel was announced.
Entitled Gladys, the movie will serve as an origin story to Amy Madigan’s titular villain.
For some time now, it’s been known that Weapons creator Zach Cregger will return in some capacity, but until now, no clarification has been offered.
It has been confirmed by Cregger himself that he will not return to write or direct Gladys.
The filmmaker’s inability to serve as director likely stems from his packed schedule, with two films already in the pipeline.
No word has been given on who will direct the sequel in Cregger’s place, but development is still in the early stages.
Furthermore, Cregger also clarified that he doesn’t intend to pen the screenplay for Gladys. Instead, Cregger will provide a story treatment alongside Krampus scribe Zach Sheilds. Following this, Sheilds will then pen the screenplay solo.
However, Cregger will remain aboard the prequel as a producer alongside Roy Lee and Miri Yoon.
Actress Amy Madigan is already confirmed to return as the iconic titular character, but aside from this, we know precious little about this prequel.
Gladys is scheduled to hit screens on September 8th 2028 via Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema.
