20th Century Fox is keen for a new entry in its Omen franchise and it’s taking a surprising route. Instead of rebooting the story again or planning a sequel of sorts, the studio is after a prequel to the film from 1976. Interestingly, this would mean there’d be no character of Damien.
So, what does this mean? Depending on how far the film goes back, we could be given a story that focuses on Damien’s pregnant mother. This sounds a bit like it will go down the route of the recent disappointment Devil’s Due or, perhaps, Rosemary’s Baby. Even Paul Solet’s Grace springs to mind. With no plot details as of yet, we can let our imaginations go wild.
Antonio Campos (Simon Killer, Christine) is currently in talks to direct and whatever happens, it will certainly be intriguing to see how an Omen film will fare without the infamous devilish Damien. More as it comes!
