Write this down in your diaries! This October marks the first ever horror/genre film festival to be held in South Florida (Miami to be precise). The landmark O Cinema Wynwood will play host to the 1st annual Popcorn Frights Film Festival where you can expect premieres of four acclaimed international features and a further six award-winning short films.
Running from the 1st through till the 4th of October, Popcorn Frights will screen Florida Premieres of four of the most eagerly awaited genre films:
Bookending the festival are the opening night horror anthology Tales of Halloween and the closing night cannibalistic Western Bone Tomahawk. The other two premieres are just as fantastic, comprising of Alistair Legrand’s debut, The Diabolical, which we loved at this year’s SXSW Festival (read our review here) and the North American Premiere of Howl, directed by Paul Hyett, an interview with whom you can enjoy in next month’s SCREAM magazine. Also lined up are the short films The Shutterbug Man (Dir. Chris Walsh), Invaders (Dir. Jason Kupfer), Hush (Dir. Michael G. Kehoe), Bad Guy #2 (Dir. Chris McInroy), Night of the Slasher (Dir. Shant Hamassian), and Crow Hand (Dir. Brian Lonano).
The festival will open the proceedings with an under the stars courtyard reception courtesy of Pollo Tropical with the reception exclusive to Badge Holders. Festival Premiere Badges are on sale for a limited period for $45, whilst single screening tickets are also available for $12. In the meantime we’ll leave you with trailers for three of the feature films to whet your appetite for what looks all set to be a prosperous genre festival:
