IFC Midnight have released the first official still from the upcoming Cabin Fever remake. Directed by Travis Zariwny, the film is co-written and executive produced by Eli Roth, who directed the storming 2002 original.Though fans will be understandably cynical about a remake of a film not yet 15 years old that was pretty great in the first place, Roth’s involvement (he co-wrote the screenplay with Randy Pearlstein from his own story) in the project adds a definite level of intrigue.
Starring Gage Golightly (2015’s The Asylum), Nadine Crocker (Some Guy Who Kills People), Dustin Ingram (Paranormal Activity 3) and Matthew Daddario, the remake sounds unlikely to deviate far from the plot of the original.
Cabin Fever follows a group of five college graduates who rent a cabin in the woods. Soon, all hell breaks loose, as the group falls victim to a flesh-eating virus that attracts the unwanted attention of the homicidal locals.
“It was a great opportunity to recreate an iconic film for a new generation of horror fans,” says Zariwny. “I am a diehard fan of horror films and the king of horror Eli Roth trusted me to re-imagine his film. I was not going to fail.”
Though unconfirmed as yet, IMDb has the film slated for a limited theatrical, VOD and Digital HD release on February 12, 2016. The same source also suggests a cameo from Eli Roth.
